Nose & Ear Surgery

Facial Surgeries

The cosmetic procedure, Rhinoplasty, is performed to change the shape of the nose for improvement in appearance. Rhinoplasty involves the shaping of the nose by adding, removing or reshaping cartilage and bone that is the framework of the nose. This allows the skin coverage also to take a different shape.

Septoplasty is the removal or reshaping of cartilage from the central portions of the nose for improvement in breathing. Though these operations may be performed together, they are often two separate issues.

During your consultation, each aspect of nasal shape will be discussed such as width, height, length and the projection of the tip. Dr. Spence will discuss the maneuver necessary to effect each of these. It is important that ethnicity be preserved during Rhinoplasty in order to improve the total harmony of the face. The recovery time for Rhinoplasty is approximately 1 week but small amounts of swelling may persist for several months before seeing the final shape.

Our practice offers surgical correction of enlarged or prominent ears and birth defects of the ear. These problems are quite common and have a very distorting psychological affect. While female patients are able to style their hair to hide the prominent ears, male patients find it more difficult. To correct these conditions, incisions are usually hidden behind the ears or in the crease of the ears where they blend into the skin folds. These procedures are performed in an outpatient setting and do not require an overnight stay.

The repair of torn earlobes can be performed under local anesthesia as an in-office procedure requiring very little recovery time.
